Compact overmolded design reduces connector length for space-constrained systems

October 1, 2025 By Redding Traiger Leave a Comment

LEMO has introduced the OPTIMA D Series, a miniature connector platform designed for defense, aerospace, and other mission-critical systems. The connectors combine a reduced form factor with rugged construction, offering reliable performance in applications such as tactical communications, UAVs, avionics, and soldier-worn equipment.

The OPTIMA D Series is engineered with IP68 sealing to withstand immersion at depths up to 20 meters for two hours, even when unmated. The connectors meet MIL-STD-810H standards for shock, vibration, and environmental stress resistance, ensuring reliability in harsh operating conditions. Push-pull and break-away latching mechanisms provide secure mating, while modular construction with five-way keying reduces the risk of connection errors during deployment.

Configurations are available to support high-speed data (including USB and Ethernet), multipole connections, and coaxial transmission. The compact, overmolded design is 25% shorter than standard LEMO connectors, allowing integration into space-constrained systems without compromising electrical or mechanical integrity. Uniform PCB height and flush-mounting options further simplify system design.

To streamline implementation, LEMO provides end-to-end cable assembly services that include custom overmolding, harness design, and private labeling. Production is certified to IPC-620, ISO 9001, AS9100, and MIL-STD-810 standards to ensure consistent quality and compliance for aerospace and defense applications.

The OPTIMA D Series is available globally through LEMO and its network of authorized distributors and partners. The platform supports both new system designs and upgrades where compact, rugged interconnect solutions are required.
