FCI launches 2-mm high-speed, hard metric backplane connector

December 22, 2014 By Mary Gannon Leave a Comment

FCI-Millipacs-High-Speed-RAR-THFCI, Singapore, has launched the High Speed version of its Millipacs series connector. The Millipacs series 2-mm hard metric (HM) backplane connector is used extensively for applications that require data rate up to 2.5 Gb/s. Telecom and Data customers are looking for signal speed upgrades that require connectors with improved signal integrity and bandwidth performance.

FCI developed a new Millipacs high speed (HS) right angle receptacle connector suitable for data rates up to 10 Gb/s and with mating compatibility to the IEC 61076-4-101 series 2-mm HM vertical header. The Millipacs HS receptacle and standard 2-mm HM header mating combination deliver lower cross-talk performance at high frequencies.

Millipacs HS is a 5-row receptacle and offers row based differential signal assignments , while still meeting the IEC 61076-4-101 2-mm HM Receptacle product specification except for the PCB footprint that is optimized for signal integrity performance. In addition, this product meets the requirements of IEEE 803.2ap. FCI provides technical support with test reports to confirm the suitability based on customer specific conditions.

“FCI’s new Millipacs HS will enhance the versatility of the legacy backplane systems,” says Abin Simon, FCI Product Director Backplane 2 mm portfolio. This will enable the industry to have cost effective upgrade to higher data rate as it retains the existing vertical headers in backplane and avoids expensive changes to the backplane architecture.
