Serial ATA (SATA) cable assembly is available with a low-smoke, zero halogen (LSZH) jacket and latching 7-position connectors that resist vibration. The new cable assemblies are made for a variety of applications, especially military/aerospace, where vibration is common and ventilation is poor. LSZH cable jackets are commonly required in certain applications where, in the event of a fire, occupants may not be able to evacuate quickly. Common PVC jackets will burn readily and release toxic gas, sometimes overwhelming anyone nearby. LSZH material produces very little smoke and no toxic gases.
Most SATA connectors are also designed for a “friction fit,” meaning they mate by pushing the connector into the jack and can be unplugged simply by pulling. In high vibration applications, this can lead to the connector popping out of its jack unexpectedly. L-com’s latching connectors will remain connected until the latch is depressed.
