New Canfield connector packages battle heat, save energy

December 30, 2014 By Mary Gannon Leave a Comment

Canfield-5FMSD-photoCanfield Connector has launched a new series of electronic connector packages that help solenoid coils stand up to intense heat as they power pneumatic and hydraulic valves.

The Canfield Connector 5JMSD and 5FMSD In-Line Micro Solenoid Drive Molded Connectors, made in America, provide bursts of energy through solenoid coils to force valves open, then cut power sharply to allow the valves to stay open and the coils to cool. The sharp reduction in power—up to 75%—maximizes coil performance and durability while conserving energy.

“These are ideal for situations where heat builds up and puts stress on the solenoid coils that govern valves,” said John Piscitelli, marketing coordinator. “The 5JMSD and 5FMSD provide enough power to get the valves open, but then draw the power back dramatically to keep the coils from heating up and wearing out.

“These new connectors reflect our commitment to find new opportunities for cost and power savings in the critical connections between our customers’ electronic controls and hard-working valves.”

Made from rugged yet flexible polyurethane, the new 5JMSD and 5FMSD connectors feature built-in gaskets and are rated at IP67/NEMA 6 for extraordinary protection from dust and the effects of temporary immersion.
