Viewer provides over 21,000 Amphenol CAD models for hardware design

September 27, 2022 By Lee Teschler Leave a Comment

The release of over 21,000 new digital models is aiming to help designers bring their products to market faster.

Electronic designers spend weeks modeling the electronic components in their circuit board designs, a time-consuming and expensive process. Modeling these components requires a high level of detail and even a single error can lead to significant losses of money and time. Engineers can now find readily available digital models – such as schematic symbols, PCB footprints and 3D models – for thousands of Amphenol Communications Solutions products. Over 21,000 products are supported, including cable-to-board, D-sub, power, SFP, USB, and QSFP connectors.

These models are freely available to download on the Amphenol Communication Solutions’ website via the SnapEDA Viewer as well as on SnapEDA and through the SnapEDA Syndication Network, which now has over 30 partners including Digi-Key. The motivation is to make it easier than ever to design-in high-quality Amphenol connectors into their PCB designs, while allowing engineers to spend more time on designing increasingly sophisticated solutions.

“To help our customers innovate more quickly we have expanded our easy-to-access digital content like 3D models,” said Becky McMorrow, Director of Global Marketing for Amphenol Communications Amphenol ViewerSolutions. “Speed to market is critical for our customers and we are pleased to offer them enhanced digital tools that help solve their design challenges.”

Powered by the SnapEDA Viewer, customers on Amphenol’s website can search for a product they need, preview and interact with the computer-aided design (CAD) models, and download them in their desired PCB format of choice. Alternately, engineers can search for a product of interest on SnapEDA, where they can also be downloaded. The libraries are available to download in over 15 PCB design formats, including Altium, Cadence OrCad/Allegro, KiCad, Autodesk EAGLE and Fusion360 and more.

Amphenol is a leading supplier of connectors and interconnects systems, antenna solutions, sensors, and high-speed cables. Their connector and connector system solutions include fiber optic interconnect, harsh environment interconnects, high-speed interconnect, power interconnect, power distribution and busbars, and radio frequency (RF) interconnect products.
“Amphenol is one of the top connector companies on SnapEDA, and we’re happy to partner with them to improve the design productivity of professional engineers,” said Natasha Baker, the CEO and Founder of SnapEDA.

The models were created following Amphenol’s recommended land patterns and a combination of IEEE-315 and IPC-7351B as well as SnapEDA’s internal standards. In addition to providing the models, SnapEDA provides transparency to engineers by including an automated report generated by its patented verification technology. This helps engineers avoid common manufacturing issues.

With these new models, the total count of Amphenol products available on SnapEDA is now over 94,000.
