Stainless steel enclosure for low-profile panel interface connectors

July 21, 2021 By Redding Traiger Leave a Comment

A Panel Interface Connector (PIC) also known as a programming port is a device that typically mounts to the outside of a control panel housing a PLC, computer, or other typed of programmable device. Once in place, the PIC, which houses convenient pass-through connections, allows quick, easy, safe access to the controls inside the cabinet without opening the main door. The ability to interface with the contents of the cabinet without opening the door prevents a lot of potential safety hazards associated with having an open electrical panel, such as Arc Flash.

Mencom has announced the release of their new ‘stainless steel’ version for the single cover low-profile housing. This stainless-steel housing is corrosion resistant, so it provides the utmost protection against most acids, alkaline solutions, and chlorine-bearing environments. In addition, low-maintenance and easy-to-clean stainless steel is not only one of the most hygienic substances but also does not support the growth of bacteria and other pathogens. Thanks to those characters of stainless steel, the new housing is suitable for environments requiring strict hygiene conditions, such as medical equipment manufacturing plants, chemical process plants, and food packaging/processing plants.

Mencom’s new low-profile stainless-steel housing protrudes from the side of the cabinet 75 percent less than the standard metal housings and the transparent polycarbonate cover allows users to see which components are within the enclosure. These enclosures provide an IP65 rating and feature a unique locking mechanism. The lock is located on the sliding latch and can be simply operated using a standard flat head screwdriver.
