Although a slowing trend continues, year-on-year sales in the connector industry were still up 3.3% in November, said research firm Bishop & associates in The Bishop Report from December.
As seen in the following graph, year-on-year bookings and billings for the global connectors industry have been trending downward for more than the second half of 2014.
Despite this, bookings in November 2014 increased 2.1% over November 2013, with year-to-date orders up 6.8% over the prior year.
China continued to hold the highest growth, with connector sales at +14.%, while the North American market softened slightly, finishing up about 7.0% for the year. The rest of the global market was right behind North America, with European sales slowing to +6.7% and Asia Pacific up about 6.5% as well.
The report indicated that North American bookings and billings growth dropped off again in November even as industrial production, retail sales and auto sales were all up. Bishop’s Connector Confidence Index for North America is down more than 10 points, at 78.3 in November, down from 91.7 in October for the present situation. This is 23 consecutive months of positive outlooks. The future index decreased to 83.3 in November, from 86.5 in October.
