New VAL-U-LOK connectors increase current ratings to 13 A

July 1, 2019 By Mary Gannon Leave a Comment

TE Connectivity has introduced an extension of its VAL-U-LOK connector product line that increases the maximum current rating from 9 to 13 A in the broadly accepted 4.2-mm centerline spacing connector system. TE’s new 13A VAL-U-LOK connectors support high current requirements for wire-to-board and wire-to-wire connections in a wide range of applications where power must be connected to a board or subsystem. Customers can select options that help prevent incorrect orientation on the PCB as well as materials that meet different international flammability requirements.

TE Connectivity Val-U-Lok connectorsThe pin headers in TE’s VAL-U-LOK connectors are rated to 13 A per line and are available with or without polarization pegs, which are designed to assist with proper orientation on the board. These connectors are designed and tested to meet UL94-V-0 flammability requirements or Glow Wire Test 750˚C (no flame) for customers in markets that require Glow Wire testing.

New contacts for VAL-U-LOK connectors are also rated to 13 A and are compatible with existing housings that support wire-to-wire and wire-to-board applications, as well as panel mount requirements. TE offers versions for use with 16 AWG and 22-18 AWG wire in housings with or without terminal position assurance (TPA) devices. The contacts are backwards compatible with the same crimping tools used for legacy 9 A contacts.

“Introducing these UL-recognized 13A connectors in our VAL-U-LOK line gives customers who need 13 A per line, polarizing pegs, various flammability ratings or a TPA option another choice of trusted supplier,” said Domenico Saraceno, product manager at TE Connectivity.

TE’s 13A VAL-U-LOK connectors are designed for use in household appliances, industrial machinery, automotive and commercial vehicles, medical devices, vending machines and gaming equipment, HVAC equipment, and more.
